The Critics Choice Award nominees were announced this morning. This group is . . . questionable, for lack of a better word, and they do tend to go for cutesy stunts in their desperate quest to become the new Golden Globes, but never quite get there. Nevertheless, they have been quite good at rewarding performances and films that later go on to obtain if not Foreign Press recognition, some Oscar love.
Rob Marshall's "Nine" leads this year's nominees (including a nomination in the supporting actress category for ITG's perennial favorite, Marion Cotillard). And finally some love for "Inglourious Basterds," as the film also garners 10 nominations, including one for the magnificent Christopher Waltz. Here's the full list:

They're such a large group they're kind of hard to pigeonhole, but yeah if you look at the list of members, they're watered down with a lot of entirely useless human beings. Lots of local news idiots.
Yet, they're a pretty reliable indicator of which way Oscar leans so they're useful for the predicting types.
It's a pretty uninspiring list overall, though I'm ok with all the films. Glad to see Marvin Hamlisch getting some love for Informant abd the more mainstreamy Broken Embraces, Coco and Red Cliff for best foreign.
The Weinsteins seem to have stuffed up Marion's chances for an Oscar nomination with another category fraud a la Winslet.
Another annoyance in what seems quite a weak year - funny they should expand the best picture nominees to 10 this year.
So they're running her for Supporting now, loom? I thought Marion was being campaigned for as lead and the rest of the ladies for supporting, but yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if they pull another one of their specialty category frauds (even if I am pulling for that particular actress, as I was with Winslet and would most likely be for Cotillard, lol).
I read on AwardsDaily that she's being campaigned as lead which she won't have much of a chance in cause of lack of screen time, so Penelope Cruz will get the nomination of the Nine ladies which Marion otherwise would have got had she been listed in supporting.
I never really understood the people who said The Reader was a supporting performance, that was obviously one great decision the Academy made. Hopefully the same thing will happen with Marion and they list her in the correct category regardless.
Speaking of Marion, I wasn't a huge fan of Public Enemies, but I thought she did a great job and it's too bad she's not getting any attention for it.
happy jumpy claps for Marion! xD
I thought my movie count was pretty good, until I counted only 4/10 Best picture noms. xD I dunno when I'll be able to watch An Education, Invictus, Nine, A Serious Man and Up in the Air. But I'm watching Avatar tomorrow xD
I'm pretty bummed for the lack of promotion for Max and Mary *sighs* so I'm kind of in the fence for the animated category. Though I've only seen Coraline and Up from there. Have no idea when Disney is planning to release Princess in my country.
Action films, I'm only missing that sneaky Avatar xD and for comedy, I'm 3/5 missing It's Complicated, and Zombieland.
Docus, the same 3/5... missing Anvil and Michael Moore's one.
And so proud to have watched all my foreign films xD Though, as much as I like Audrey Tautou... Coco Avant Chanel was a total disappointment. The White Ribbon or Red Cliff for the win! Though, I heard the international market is getting the super edited version of two-in-one of Red Cliff.
You guys should hold off for the two-part dvd version.
I'll join the Marion parade and will agree with Craig that she did some beautifully subtle work in PE. I'm looking forward to seeing her in "Nine." A fan of musicals, and a fan of "Chicago" as well, I hope I don't walk away disappointed.
We're in the same boat, Amy. I need to see so many movies to catch up it's not even funny. At least I'll be entertained while doing so.
