Hollywood Reporter writes about adjustments made for Best Original Song for this year's Oscars (although, maybe I'm stupid, but I thought they did this last year):
No Academy Award will be presented for best song at next year's ceremony if none of the tunes is considered good enough, Oscar organizers said Friday.
Rules for the 82nd Oscar show next March will require that at least one song must achieve a minimum score of 8.25 on a scale of 6 to 10 in voting by members of the academy's music branch.
"We're trying to improve the quality," said composer Bruce Broughton, who heads the music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. "There's been a lot of talk about the songs in films, the lack of memorability compared to songs in the past, the almost forgetability of some of them. ... This is an attempt to really make the songs as good as possible."
OH and by the way...
The Honorary Oscar won't be presented at the ceremony this year. Fuck honoring lifetime achievement -- they've got musical montages and 10 minute Best Actor introductions to air.

LOL @ ur Honorary Oscar comment.
I have to admit, I did enjoy the Enchanted songs, I enjoyed Enchanted. I love Amy Adams xD
But Once PAWNSSSS!!
You could've title your post...
"didn't this sorta happened when Miley didn't get nominated" - and thank GOD that happened. - I still can't believe she's got a Globe nod for it.
Yeah, the Honorary Oscar not being presented is just a real wtf? for me. The whole point is that they're being honored by their peers, for their entire body of work - that should happen publicly and IN FRONT OF THEIR PEERS at the ceremony. Not mailed to them in a box and an announcement made in passing.
Yeah, the Honorary Oscar is what really bugs me. They're cutting it likely because it's unpopular, but, man, show some respect.
ps. Amy, I agree -- But Once PAWNSSSS!!
This is beyond idiocy.
The ACADEMY is REALLY STARTING TO GET ON MY NERVES this year.
In spite of the fact that ROBERT REDFORD and SOPHIA LOREN were previous OSCAR winners, SOPHIA never showed up to accept her 1961 award for Two Women. I wasn't old enough to watch ROBERT REDFORD win for BEST DIRECTOR in 1981 either.
Not to mention that FABULOUS tribute to my grandly spectacular idol PETER O'TOOLE. The fact that another person that I worship and adore (MERYL STREEP) presented it to him just made it all the sweeter.
Frankly, depending on the ceremony (if the personalities and films you love lose it can be a VERY LONG night), the honorary awards can be anywhere from the highlight of the evening to memories that you cherish for decades.
One word: Grrrrrrrrrrr........
What the F are they thinking these days...?
