Poster: Valkyrie

"Valkyrie," starring that loveable nutbag Tom Cruise, tells the story of the failed assassination attempt of Adolf Hitler during the final months of World War II. The film is scheduled for a December 26 release. I don't know, I kind of like it. And that makes me feel weird and uncomfortable. Click on the image for a larger, better view.

Yeah, I like the starkness and the geometry.

I'm a little bewildered at the hate flung at this movie sight unseen. I wouldn't want to have drinks with Tom, but I still enjoy seeing him in the right movies and I like Bryan Singer too.

I'm not getting an Oscar vibe off this one, but I think it might be fun.

Same here about Cruise. While I think he's...unorthodox...I do enjoy most of his work and his willigness to take on big challenges or just silly stunts. Singer is a favorite of mine, and I'm possibly the only person who thinks highly of "Apt Pupil."

As to the film's chances, it was definitely a vote of confidence to move the film's release to 12/26. Makes me feel good about its prospects.

Cruise (or Cruth as they say in Barcelona) could've coasted on his reputation after Top Gun and played one hunky leading man part after another, but he went out of his way work with the best directors: Kubrick, Spielberg and PT Anderson leap instantly to mind.

I never saw Apt Pupil, but I like Singer's Superman better than most folks I know.

My. God. I truly, genuinely enjoyed Singer's Superman as well. We are a rare breed of individuals. I remember turning to my brother at one point and just saying "art." I mean, there were a lot of fun elements (especially Parker Posey), but there was a beauty to the film I still can't quite describe. It's a serious shame the film was not as well received as it should have been.

Friggin' fanboys and their belief that comics belong to them.

The movie had a HEART for crapsakes.

The Valkyrie trailer is up btw.

Hey, Goddess and Crab Dude respectively...

Don't leave me out in the cold. It's lonely out here.

*sniff*

I saw Singer'S SUPERMAN FOUR TIMES. So I am most definitely with you two.

IN SPADES.

D, "loveable nutbag"? Hardy har har.

And this is why you are one of my favourite women. EVER.

Along with the thoroughly amazing k, of course...

Thank you so much, M. Your unique voice is quite welcome in these parts. It does not surprise me in the least that you enjoyed Superman. You are a woman of refinement and exquisite taste, after all.

Awww, thanks, honey.

It's wonderful to be thought of in those particular terms.

ESPECIALLY by one of the coolest, most intellectually advanced female bloggers on the planet...

I, too, love the "loveable nutbag" term. True on both counts, and I actually love the nutbag. Tom Cruise The Actor, I mean.

The "loveable nutbag" thing totally describes how I feel about Cruise. He's like a crazy uncle you still love despite all those embarrassing episodes during Thanksgiving. I don't think I'll ever not like him -- help me, someone! :D

I can see how Cruise can be thought of as such, and certainly that eclipses his actual talent. In any case this new Hitler film is more than intriguing, I must say.
