Beverly Hills Cop Set for Another Sequel; Hollywood Should be Sued

I hate to be the bearer of even more bad, whacky Hollywood news, but several outlets are reporting that world-wide audiences will be once again castigated by another unnecessary sequel, this time courtesy of Beverly Hills Cop. This would make it the fourth in the franchise. Let's have a moment of silence for Tinsel Town. What's next? Another "Karate Kid" sequel? Actually, I'd be game for that. Somewhere, K is weeping.

[in sarcastic font] Eddie could play all the roles in this one too. One can never get enough fat suit gags.

You know, I was all set to rant and rave about this, but then I looked around and saw how many internet sites were actually excited about all this and it just depressed me.

Ugh.

I'm honestly stunned. I thought that the news would be met with outrage as well, but that's not the case. In a way, I can't be mad at the honchos: if there's interest and money to be made, why not go for it? That's all most of them care about anyway.

Unbelievable. How soon before the John Hughes movies are dusted off? Ghostbusters 4? When will it end?

I am most certainly weeping.

Have you seen the trailer for the new Eddie Murphy film, Meet Dave? YouTube it; I was watching it when I found out about this new Beverly Hills Cop sequel.

I think Eddie REALLY wants to get the Academy back for not awarding him the Oscar. "I'm going to make the crappiest movies I can and then send them in for Oscar consideration. Fuck your Academy!"

Personally, I don't give a flying f if Eddie does another one of these. It will certainly be lame and make him even more millions - and I DON'T begrudge him that at all.

But that's neither here nor there.

This is OT. But I just wanted to leave this where Dorothy would see it.

D, do you remember when you asked me to check out Brandy Carlile and tell you what I thought? Well, I FINALLY remembered to. Listened to three videos on YouTube just to get a graphic taste.

She has a lovely pure voice. Kind of reminds me a bit of Melissa Etheridge but with a more folky edge. A tad like KT Tunstall as well.

Very nice. She'll go places, I think...

Oh, I like Brandi Carlile! She has a song, "What Can I Say", that is just beautiful.

miranda -- have you ever listened to She & Him? The actress, Zooey Deschanel, provides vocals and she's got an incredible voice. It sort of sounds like... well, if you threw Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dusty Springfield into a blender, that's what you'd get. And the songs on her album (with M. Ward) are fun, mellow, and catchy. I mean, I don't think she's bound to change the landscape of music, but she's good.

NO, k. I didn't even know that Zooey Deschanel could sing. I will have to check that out.

I'm all for being adventurous and knocking down the rafters when it comes to art. If you don't investigate these things, how are you going to know what you enjoy? Part of the reason we're here (I think) is to have experiences of all kinds. (Hopefully positive and enriching, but unfortunately it doesn't always happen that way.)

So I think that we all owe it to ourselves to be open to the new, immerse ourselves in whatever we find fascinating and inspirational - and see where that takes us.

Thank you, k. You're a treasure...

She & Him: Volume One is a really good album. They certainly have a bit of a retro sound, and Deschanel is a big fan of melodies and harmonies. I, seriously, haven't been able to stop listening to it for the past week.

I really recommend the record. It's a refreshing change to some of the crap that comes out nowadays.
